Overview
Highlights
- The Rupin Waterfall: The waterfall reveals itself layer by layer as you climb. Eventually, a three-tier, 1,500-foot cascade opens up right beside your campsite in the meadows of Dhanderas Thatch, making it one of the most iconic campsites on the trail.
- Dense Forests of Fir: As you trek out of Jakha and head toward the meadows of Saruwas Thatch, you walk through towering, age-old conifer and pine forests that offer a short yet charming woodland experience.
- Climbing to the Top of the Waterfall: Reaching the Upper Waterfall camp (Rata Pheri) gives you a thrilling perspective, looking down over miles of the perfectly U-shaped Rupin Valley stretching out below.
- The Summit Climb Through Rupin Gully: Past the Rata Pheri snowfields lies the Rupin Gully—a narrow, dramatic chute between steep rocky walls leading straight up to the pass summit at 15,279 feet.
- Meadows of Sangla Kanda: After the raw, rocky pass crossing and descent to Ronti Gad, the rugged terrain suddenly transitions into the soft, sweeping grassy meadows characteristic of the Kinnaur valley.
