Brahmatal Trek – The Snow Wonderland of Uttarakhand
My Mountain Club Organising a Trek in Hidden deep in the Uttarakhand Himalayas, Brahmatal is a serene glacial lake wrapped in myth and natural beauty. This trek is one of the few Himalayan adventures open in winter, from December to March, offering trekkers snow-covered meadows, frozen lakes, and breathtaking mountain views. The route passes through dense forests of oak and rhododendron, quiet alpine clearings, and the tranquil Bekaltal and Brahmatal lakes. From the top, trekkers are rewarded with spectacular views of Mt. Trishul, Mt. Nanda Ghunti, and even glimpses of the distant Roopkund trail. With gentle ascents and well-sheltered trails, Brahmatal is ideal for beginners seeking a true Himalayan snow trek. The landscape, ever-changing with light and snow, is a photographer’s delight — from glowing peaks at sunrise to the calm reflection of the lake under a white winter sky.
Why choose Brahmatal trek ?
- Stunning Frozen Alpine Lakes: You get to camp by and walk across two distinct high-altitude lakes—Bekaltal and Brahmatal—which freeze completely during peak winter, creating mirror-like reflections of the surrounding snowscapes
- Up-Close Views of Major Peaks: From the Brahmatal Summit and high ridges like Jhandi Top, you get massive, unobstructed 360-degree views of towering Himalayan giants, including Mt. Trishul and Nanda Ghunti.
- Beginner-Friendly Yet Adventurous: Rated as an easy-to-moderate trek, it doesn't require technical climbing experience, making it an ideal first-time winter snow trek. However, it still pushes you with ridge walks and cold weather camping.
- Diverse Landscapes: The trail constantly changes character. You transition from dense, fairy-tale-like oak and rhododendron forests to wide-open snow-covered meadows (bugyals) and exposed, windy high-altitude ridges.
- Reliable Winter Access: While many high-altitude Himalayan treks close down during the winter months due to heavy blockages, Brahmatal remains one of the most accessible and popular routes to experience deep snow from December to February
